What Is Coinbase Wallet®?

Coinbase Wallet® is a self-custody crypto wallet, meaning you alone have access to your private keys and digital assets. Unlike the main Coinbase.com exchange, where assets are stored in a custodial system, the Coinbase Wallet® app puts you in control.

With Coinbase Wallet®, you can:

• Store thousands of crypto tokens (ETH, BTC, USDC, and more)
• Collect and manage NFTs
• Explore decentralized apps (DeFi, swaps, DAOs)
• Access Layer-2 solutions and EVM chains
• Send and receive crypto globally

It’s available as a mobile app (iOS and Android) and as a browser extension (Chrome, Brave).

Step 1: Install Coinbase Wallet®

To begin:

1. Visit the official site: https://wallet.coinbase.com
2. Choose your platform – Mobile App or Browser Extension
3. Download and install the application securely from the App Store, Google Play, or Chrome Web Store

Make sure you're installing the official version published by Coinbase, Inc.

Step 2: Create a New Wallet

Once installed:

• Open the app and tap “Create New Wallet”
• Choose a username (optional for social payments)
• Securely write down your 12-word recovery phrase
• Set a strong passcode or enable biometric authentication

🚨 Important: Your recovery phrase is the only way to restore your wallet. Never share it, and never save it in your email or cloud storage.

Step 3: Fund Your Wallet

You can add crypto to your Coinbase Wallet® in several ways:

• Transfer from Coinbase.com – Instant and gas-free if using Polygon or Base
• Receive crypto from another wallet or friend using your wallet address or username
• Buy crypto directly inside the app via credit card or bank account (availability varies by country)

Use the “Receive” tab to find your wallet address or QR code.

Step 4: Explore Web3 and dApps

Coinbase Wallet® gives you access to Web3 and DeFi directly through its built-in browser or wallet connect protocols. Some popular things you can do:

• Swap tokens via DEXs like Uniswap
• Stake assets on DeFi platforms
• Buy or sell NFTs on marketplaces like OpenSea
• Join DAOs or governance platforms
• Lend and borrow using protocols like Aave or Compound

All with the safety of your self-custody wallet.

Step 5: Backup & Security Tips

Coinbase Wallet® is powerful—but with great power comes responsibility. Here's how to keep it safe:

• Backup your recovery phrase in multiple offline locations
• Enable two-factor authentication on your Coinbase account (if linked)
• Be cautious with signing smart contracts from unknown sites
• Verify URLs before interacting with dApps
• Never share your recovery phrase or private key
